Short CV

Athanasios G. Athanasiadis was born in Giannitsa, Pella. He studied Theology at the Aristotle University and the Theological Seminary in Belgrade. He enrolled in the postgraduate program of the Theological School of the Aristotle University where he later submitted his Doctoral Thesis on the topic: “The religious dimension of national conflicts in the Balkans. The case of Yugoslavia 1990-1995 “. He completed his postdoctoral studies at the Theological Seminary of the University of Belgrade (Modern Ecclesiastical History), specializing in the formation of Bosnian national identities.
in the relationship it formed with the other religious communities (Roman Catholic Church of Croatia, Muslim Community) of the former Yugoslavia especially during the period of the 1990-1995 civil war. His studies examine nationalist upheavals and the involvement of the religious factor in the multidimensional crisis that led to the collapse of Socialist Yugoslavia. An important chapter of his scientific interests is occupied by the presence and evolution of Islam in the former Yugoslav countries, the formation of political identities, nationalist tendencies, religious and political ideologies and precursor ethnogenesis utilizing the existing Yugoslav and other. He is Associate Professor of the Theological School of AUTh. (Department of Ecclesiastical History of the Christian Secretariat of Archeology and Art) and teaches the course “Islam and the Balkans” at the Theological Department and in the Department of Muslim Studies.
